What is an eInvoice?
There are numerous expressions on the market nowadays that confuse the users of electronic invoices when it comes to deciding what word to use when referring to electronic invoices. Back in 1987, the UN adopted the EDIFACT standard, under which electronic invoices can be delivered by means of the EDI form of communication. Unfortunately, EDI (electronic data interchange) was never widely accepted because its use is costly and very complicated. Let us point out that electronic invoices are sometimes referred to as EDI, which is incorrect. Some people in Croatia refer to electronic invoices as “iRačun” or “iRačuni”, which is a result of the “semi-phonetic” translation of the word “eInvoice” from the English language. However, there is no doubt that the only way to refer to an electronic invoice is “eRačun”, when talking about the singular, that is, “eRačuni” when talking about the plural. Finally, to sum up, what is the correct way to write the term in Croatian? Is it “eRačun” or “eRačuni”, “e-Račun” or “e-Računi”, with a hyphen or without it? Both ways are grammatically correct, but we suggest that you refer to your and our eInvoice, for trust and safety reasons, as “Moj-eRačun”.
